Red clover can be sown in spring and autumn. In colder areas, such as Northeast, Northwest, and North China, it is better to sow in early spring, and in summer high temperature areas, such as Central South and South China, it is better to sow in autumn.
Red clover seeding method
The row spacing of red clover is 30-40 cm, and the depth is 1 to 2 cm. The seeding rate per hectare is 10.5 to 15 kg for single seeding, and 7.5 to 10.5 kg per hectare for mixed seeding with Gramineae. In colder and humid areas, red clover is often mixed with timothy, in warm and dry areas, mixed with orchardgrass, and in warm and humid areas, often mixed with perennial ryegrass, the mixed sowing ratio is 1:1.
Fertilization method of red clover
Red clover requires a lot of phosphorus, potassium, and calcium fertilizers. In addition to applying base fertilizer before sowing, 300 kg of superphosphate and 225 kg of potassium fertilizer should be applied per hectare during the growth process. Before returning to green in early spring and after each mowing and grazing, the land should be harrowed to promote regrowth. Irrigation and watering should also be carried out in arid areas.
Red clover disease prevention method
Red clover is vulnerable to weeds at the seedling stage, so care should be taken to prevent and eliminate weeds, as there are fewer pests and diseases. The common disease is Sclerotinia sclerotiorum, which is easy to occur after rain in early spring. It mainly infects the root neck and root system. It can be prevented by applying lime and spraying carbendazim.
