Paspalum (scientific name: Paspalum notatum Flugge) is a perennial herbaceous plant belonging to the family Gramineae. Woody, multi-node rhizome. It grows in clusters and can reach up to 80 cm in height. The back of the leaf sheath is compressed into a ridge, glabrous; the leaf tongue is membranous, very short, and the leaf blade is flat or folded in half, smooth and glabrous. The racemes are opposite, the axillary is long pubescent, the spikelets are ovoid, smooth and glabrous, the anthers are purple, and the stigma is dark brown. Flowers and fruits in September.
Native to America. A fine pasture introduced and cultivated in Gansu and Hebei, China. It is suitable for growing in tropical and subtropical areas where the annual precipitation is higher than 750 mm. Guangdong, Guangxi, Hainan, Fujian, Sichuan, Guizhou, Yunnan, Hunan, Hubei, Anhui and other southern regions are suitable for planting. The soil requirements are not strict, and the ability to grow on sandy soils with lower fertility and aridity is still strong.
